Boardwalk Empire

Little dissapointed in Jimmy's acting ability (especially when he's right next to Nucky the whole time acting circles around him). Besides that, there were really no gripes (OK, maybe some of the sets/scenery being a little fake-looking).

The show has great potential and with the other talent involved in it, it's bound to be an amazing series. Nucky was amazing, the directing was great and the music involved was a very good touch. Despite being a little slow (expected for the first episode - great character development), this show is going to definitely be a huge hit if they can keep it going!

Logikal's Top Five TV Shows

Though I don't get that much free time, when I do, I enjoy watching a little bit of the boob tube. Here's a list of my favorite shows on TV right now.....after looking at the list, I think it's pretty apparent that I'm a sucker for a good comedy series. This list is only shows that have new episodes on. There are far more I could have listed had it been about my favorites of all-time.

Logikal's Top 5:

Modern Family

I just recently started watching this and love it. My good friends Vanessa and Ben put me on one night and I was hooked ever since. The father character, Phil has become one of my favorite characters of any show recently. His delivery and timing and the way in which he says his jokes/punchlines kill it every time. Al Bundy's on it too! A definite must-watch (or at least check it out) if you've never seen it!

Parks and Recreation

Only in it's third season, this show has REALLY picked up over the past six or so episodes. I gave it a try when it premiered and couldn't stand it. Fast forward some months or so and it's right up there as a top contender for best comedy. The writers and producers have really done a good job at highlighting the show's best characters, Tom played by Aziz Ansari and Andy played by Chris Pratt. Those two make the show worth watching alone....and if you've never heard any of Aziz's stand-up or checked out his Raaaaaandy character, YouTube his stuff NOW!

30 Rock

Witty, socially relevant, bizarre are just a few words I can use to describe the comedy that you get from this future classic. It's critically acclaimed winning numerous Emmy's almost every year since it's inception and it still remains just as hilarious as it's always been. Every character plays their role perfectly. Tina Fey, Alex Baldwin and Tracy Morgan (almost said Jordan!) as well as "Kenneth" are ridiculous in every sense of the word and it all makes for some amazing TV.

Justified

I wasn't really sure what to put here but I've caught the first two episodes of this and enjoyed it quite a bit. It's a little slow but I see potential in it for a really good series. Since it's fairly new, I recommend checking out the first two episodes and seeing if it's for you. It's fairly smart and keeps me intrigued so we'll see if I keep with it.

The Office

If you don't already watch this show.....give it a try. No words I write will be able to properly describe the love I have for this series. Classic, best comedy ever are the only thing's that come to mind.

Honorable Mentions: 24 (I'm far too behind to truly understand the storyline but it's always been a favorite), It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia (Would have made the list if there was a season on now....must-watch!), How To Make It In America (Eh...it's kind of just there. Hasn't progressed much and is something I'd have on while doing other stuff).

Miss Erykah

Erykah Badu's latest album, New Amerykah Part II: Return of the Ankh recently leaked online and after giving it a solid five or so listens, the album is incredible. She takes a step back from the more experimental musical vibe that she had on Part I and does somewhat of a return to the Erykah from Baduizm or even Mama's Gun (arguably one of my favorite "R&B" releases of all-time). While I can't quite say yet if this tops Part 1, I must say that they are two totally different albums. While this is a lot more easy to take in, there was something about Part 1 that made me WANT to listen to it again. A truly talented woman in every sense of the word, Ms. Badu has added another masterpiece to her amazing list of credentials. I can't wait to listen to Part 2 again and fully soak it all in. It's a must-have and if you're a fan of music, you must listen to it...repeatedly.

Racing Against Myself, But I'm A Couple Steps Behind.

After an extremely nice four days off of work, I go back today....from 12:00-10:00. Quite the monstrous shift. I had an amazing weekend and couldn't have been more satisfied with the way things went. On Friday, I was able to go to the Winter Park Art Festival. I've gone in past years and always had fun but something about this year seemed a lot more fun. The weather was PERFECT and the vendors were out everywhere! As usual, the food was delicious and there was such a variety to choose from. I went with a Jamaican-themed booth and got a Jerk Chicken platter with rice and vegetables which was great. I can't imagine how much profit this brings in to the city but it definitely seems like it would garner some big revenue for the town which is good. While walking around the festival, I overheard one of the artists with an exhibit say to somebody that over 2,000 people submit work to be entered into the festival and it's super competitive to be a part of. Whoever chooses who's able to show their work has a hell of a task they're faced with each year and I think they do a great job because there was some amazing work there this year.

Friday night I went to the concert I highlighted in my last post, Badfish. After a couple tequila rounds before the show, I was ready to go. Upon arriving to House Of Blues, I noticed that there weren't nearly as many cars in the parking lot as I had seen for other shows that I'd been to there so I thought that maybe this show wasn't going to bring in a big crowd....and boy, was I wrong. I must have arrived too early which was fine with me since it gave me a little time to sober up with some food and then knock back a couple shots and a beer before the first band performed. To be perfectly honest, I can't remember the name of the opening act....and that should pretty much sum up their performance right there. The second band was Scotty Don't which was actually the Badfish group with their own original music. I wasn't too much of a fan and it started to make me a little nervous about them headlining as Badfish. All of that went away as soon as they hit the stage and opened with "Date Rape," one of Sublime's most popular songs. They sounded great. Had I not been able to see the group members and Sublime wasn't split, I would have definitely thought I was listening to the real deal. The band performed all the classics and a lot of lesser-known songs (to some people, at least) which was really awesome. The crowd was extremely into the show and the participation back and forth was awesome. If Badfish come to a city near you, I definitely recommend checking it out....just make sure you don't show up too early.

Saturday I woke up feeling a bit hungover but definitely excited about having another day off of work. After a quick shower and a much needed refreshing breakfast, I was ready to conquer the day ahead of me.....which led to watching a little TV before that, haha. After some TV and leisure time, I went to a restaurant called the Green Lemon Cafe in Winter Park on Aloma Ave. by Whole Foods. Minus the unfriendly staff, the food was really delicious. I got a Tuscan Chicken Panini that had Pesto on it and was out of this world. Definitely recommend checking it out (if you can get past the non-helpful staff). After lunch, it was time to go check out the UCF Knights baseball team in action against the Presbyterian College. It was, as my dad would say "A perfect day for baseball." Their was a slight breeze and the sun was out in full-effect. This was the first game I've been to this year and it felt awesome to be out there. I definitely want to make it to a few more before the season's over. Having played my whole life, it really makes me want to join a league, do intramural sports or something. I realized how much I missed it while there. The team was really good too! They ended up winning 6-1 and the pitcher threw for 7 innings with 11 strikeouts! Good times and great food, haha! Shaved ice, popcorn, cheeseburgers...yum.

After the game, I came back and ate a delicious dinner of white-bean burgers, broccoli and potato wedges which was really, really good. I ended up making it 3/4 through the Oscar winner, The Hurt Locker. I've seen it once before and really liked how suspenseful it is and the great action throughout that keeps you on the edge of your seat but I guess I was just too tired to finish it this time around.

So, now....I'm dreading having to go back to work but am also happy to get back. If it wasn't such a long shift, I think I'd be more excited about it. I'll try and do a mobile photo uploads post soon, get a video from the concert and do a music post soon if time permits. Another busy week awaits me and I say, bring it on!

Santeria

This Friday I will be going to see the Sublime cover band, BadFish at one of my favorite venues in Orlando, House of Blues. I've heard great things about this band and how similar they sound to Sublime so I'm pretty stoked. I just want to enjoy a few good drinks and hear some music that I grew up with. Though I've definitely always been a huge Hip-Hop "head" since the early days, Sublime is THE band that defined my High School life.

House parties, beach parties, you name it....Sublime was being played. Guaranteed.

Their music will live with me forever so I'm really excited that I'll be able to experience something so close to the real deal. When asked the question of what band I'd want to see, alive or dead, Sublime was always in the Top 3. They sum up the vibe of Delray Beach perfectly and made all of us little beach rats feel as if we were right there in Cali rockin' with them.

I'll definitely post up a review of the show some time over the weekend if time permits. There's A LOT going on this weekend. Orlando people, you can check out Culture Climax for all the info you'll need.

Royce Da 5'9: Over (Freestyle)

Royce definitely bodies this and finally gets me anticipated for Bar Exam 3. Bar Exam 2 is one of my favorite mixtapes ever and usually gets played during every other workout session. Royce is lyrical but has that passion and anger in his flow and delivery which definitely makes him one of my favorite's out.

Mos Def - Casa Bey

Mos Def definitely put a lot of work into his highly slept-on album, The Ecstatic. While "Casa Bey" might not be his best lyrical showing, it definitely highlights his willingness to try new musical routes and features a very ill beat with a perfect buildup. Definite standout from the album.

John Coltrane - Blue Train

Ahhh....Coltrane, what more else is there to say about you? The song, the album, everything about "Blue Train" is classic in the sense of the word. After a long night of work, there's nothing I like to listen to more than the melodic sounds of Coltrane and either this or "A Love Supreme."

Sublime - Foolish Fool

A top 3 band for me, this is off of Sublime's acoustic album. The way Bradley sings will never be duplicated and this is a damn fine showing of his talents. With such emotion and passion, he made you feel like you were right there jammin' along with him. This song makes me think of amazing times during High School also, which is always fun to think about.

*I'm Tryin' To Do The Best That I Can With What It Is I Have*

It's been quite some time since my last update and for that, I must apologize. Hopefully you will understand how much work I've been putting into my classes this semester. In no way am I complaining, I just feel bad for the lack of updates. My main focus for this semester was all A's and it's looking like it'll be a great semester. In order to meet that goal, countless hours go into studying, reading, lab assignments and everything else that many of my fellow college graduates (or attendees) definitely understand.

Along with my studies, I've been putting in nearly 37 hours a week at my job with Publix. As tedious as the work can be, I've already received two promotions in less than seven months and along with those promotions came raises. Currently my job is sort of like solving one large puzzle. Being the busiest store in our district and one of the biggest in the Central Florida area means that it's important to work smart, and that, to pat my own back a little bit...is something I do well. Doing little things that may help with the bigger picture is my focus while at work.

Ahhh...so along with school and work, I've got to have some social life, right?!

Yeah, something like that, haha. Lately I've been enjoying myself and hanging with my friends a lot. Since January, I've become a lot better friends with people, re-opened friendships and have met many new, interesting people which is what I'm most proud of. Coming out of a difficult breakup, the main thing I wanted to do was to go out, be social and not close myself off from the world. Though it's difficult at times, I maintain and try my hardest to open new doors for myself, whether it be a new friendship, a networking connection, a relationship, whatever it may be; I'm doing me, and that's all I can really do.

So for now? I'm on "Spring Break." While the rest of the college population is in either Daytona Beach, Cancun or wherever the rage is now-a-days, I'm staying busy with work and trying my hardest to get ahead in a couple classes of mine. As soon as I go back to school (03/16/10), I'm hit with a major test in one of my classes. I've also recently started back on somewhat of a workout regimen that I'm trying my hardest to stick with. It's 6 days a week, 3 cardio and 3 lifting. Maybe 4 and 2, we'll see. Working out is one of my favorite things to do and the feeling that I get from it is like that of no other. I'm definitely going to try to get a little basketball in this week. I miss playing ball so much. I played from elementary school all the way until my senior year of high school and really wish I stuck with it.

Either way, here's a piece of my life. After dinner, I'll probably do another post with something music-related or whatever it is that I do.

I'm really hoping it's more Nas over Damian's production and him on the hooks but I really don't know what to expect. I've been extremely busy lately and haven't really had much to contribute to the blog due to school, homework, studying, research and work. It sort of takes over my life Tuesday-Thursday and to add 34+ hours of work a week to that as well as to try and have some type of a social life, it becomes hard to stick with a daily update or two. I'm not complaining at all though. I'm happy to be so busy. I'm blessed to have a job and blessed to have the ability to attend college. It makes me feel

as if everything is happening with some sort of rhyme or reason behind it.

On another note, I'm hoping that I can make it to Beta Retail Gallery within the next couple days to try and get some type of interview with either Tommy or another associate to see why they're closing up shop. (If you didn't know, now you do - Go and get some steals!) It's a shame that business isn't working out for them but I believe that they'll come back with something just as fresh when the time is right.

Young Jones is an MC out of Orlando, FL. I first met him at DJ ET's house before his Birthday Bash at "Tavern On The Lake." While listening to music, he felt it so necessary to spit a freestyle right there. Nobody knew it was going to be a seven-minute banger! Evan Roberts is a local artist here in Orlando who just wrapped up his feature EP, "Outta Hear." Combing different genres of music together, Evan's got his own unique sound that is sure to grow and continue to push the envelope of what an artist can do musically. Working closely with the production duo, OddzNEndz and Starkiller, Evan's got a great team of people around him that are doing every thing to make sure he has continued success.

The first video, "Golden" off of "Outta Hear" was just released and is an AMAZING way to introduce Evan to the world. Mike and Lora Cinema put together a beautiful video that matches the song perfectly. I hope y'all enjoy this as much as I am. 2010, let's go!

You stuck on sleep, get on your P's and Q's

Today was a loooooong day. Woke up around 6:15, knocked out a quick workout and I then went to school bright and early to print out some lecture notes for my first class. After class, I decided that I'd go get a haircut.

I went to my favorite place in Orlando: STOP Barber Shop.

These dude's are so skilled at their craft. I've been to a few other spots around town and nothing compares to the quality cut that you'll get here. Straight-edge razors and a hot foam shave are essential. If you go, ask for Jake and he'll line you up good (pause).

After this, I went back to campus to grab lunch, politic with a new friend I made about some upcoming projects, classes, the music industry, fashion and the whole nine.

Tonight is hopefully the beginning of a new type of series that I'll be working on. I'm hoping to start filming for the biography / documentary of what goes into making a beat and the efforts put behind (ayo!) getting a music artist to sign on board with the music created. I'll be (hopefully) shooting raw footage of Jay of OddzNEndz working on a beat and then editing it down within the next couple of days (dependent on me finishing my school work this weekend).

Today also called for more opportunity by re-connecting DJ PapaSmirf with OddzNEndz and hopefully getting these guys all lined up to get some work done and trying to get a meeting/more video for a South Florida (561!) trip in the next couple weeks.

I promise there won't be any more posts this long, I just felt productive today and felt like letting y'all know what's good with me.

This brand has been doing their thing for a while now but within the past two years, they've really matured as a brand and put a lot of focus into the details of their pieces, especially the Cut&Sew portion of the brand. Timeless and classic pieces is what the focus is on and I can really appreciate that. The ability to throw something on five or ten years from when you purchased it that still is in with the times and holds value down the line is very essential for remaining a strong brand.

Look Into My Eyes, What Do You See?

While currently penning down some ideas for future projects, I came across a really great video that expemplifies what I'm looking for. Shot and directed by 13th Witness, this video illustrates exactly what I need with a video editor. The ability of 13th to capture the man (Futura 2000, 13th's father), the creativity and the process on what goes into pushing the envelope. Futura's one of my favorite "street" artists ever and this video does a great job at showing how something so simple such as just writing down words can be so much more.

Coming into this second post, I was expecting to spend the whole day updating the look and feel of the blog and writing a lot more than I'll be leaving you with. Every thing is slowly coming into fruition and this will soon be THE place to check each and every morning before you leave to conquer your day. Please believe.

Today for lunch I met with a local music producer, Nino of the duo, OddzNEndz. After a great meal at some grimy Asian buffet, we had a very inspired discussion about a future project that I'm extremely proud of. With a great passion for music, trying new things (pause), living every day to the fullest and going out and experiencing life, these two are definitely an inspiration to be around/work with.

Today also brought about a great future relationship with an amazing local artist, Prote-J who's currently completing his mixtape "Good Hip-Hop Meets Radio." Out of Daytona Beach, this artist is making a name for himself in a major way. He's managed by one of the hardest working people I know, Ben who has nothing on his mind except how him and his artist can make it in this extremely tough music business.

In time, this site will grow. That's a guarantee. For right now, the small details are being worked on while the main focus is not taking a back seat.

Great music, fashion,entertainment, entrepreneurship, creativity, expanding our culture and making a name for our generation is just the beginning. Have faith in Logikal and I PROMISE to not dissapoint.

Can you believe it's 2010 already? Time to stop saying things like "..seems like just yesterday" and to start saying "In the next decade!..." Let's get it!

Expect more in a few days. Getting some stuff with life situated right now....then the real fun begins!

For my first post, here's the new video for "History" by Mos Def feat. Talib Kweli. From Mos' album "The Ecstatic," this was definitely one of my favorite cuts from the album. Nice getting that reminiscent sound from the Blackstar glory-days.

What'd y'all think about "The Ecstatic" and the direction Mos took with it? When I first heard it, I'm not gonna front, it was a bit of a letdown. I asked myself where Mos was and why he was spittin' like MF Doom throughout it. After listening to it a couple times over the past two days, it definitely seemed to be a grower.
